Hyundai Philippines initially previewed the 2023 Hyundai Stargazer to the media giving us a chance to quickly test out the MPV and to see what it has to offer in the metal. While the preview event only gave us the entry-level pricing for the Stargazer we were left to wonder how the South Korean automaker would position the rest of the lineup.

As a quick backgrounder, the 2023 Hyundai Stargazer goes up against the likes of the Mitsubishi Xpander, Toyota Veloz, and possibly the upcoming Honda BR-V. It brings with it sleek and modern styling, with a utilitarian and comfy interior. It also carries the brand’s fuel-efficient Smartstream powertrain along with a host of safety features that put it a cut above the rest in the segment.
Exterior
The exterior of the all-new Hyundai Stargazer takes on the brand’s latest design language called the “Pioneering Spirit.” This gives the MPV a modern and futuristic look which borrows some inspiration from its bigger brother the Hyundai Staria. At the front, it comes with a sleek and sloping front end with a flat face and a long horizontal LED daytime running light. It comes with an upper black grille with a unique design along with a lower grille that contains diamond-like patterns. It also comes available with LED headlights arranged in a similar way to its competitor the Mitsubishi Xpander. Aside from this the vehicle also rides on a set of 16-inch alloy wheels.

Interior

On the inside, the Stargazer comes with a utilitarian yet comfortable interior. Storage space is plentiful with multiple cubbyholes being found inside the vehicle. It does come with leather seats as standard for the GLS and GLS premium trim levels with the GL variant only being available with cloth seats.
At the heart of the dashboard lies an 8-inch infotainment or a 2-DIN radio depending on the variant. While the touchscreen system does support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the 2-DIN radio does come with support for Bluetooth. The infotainment system also serves as a monitor for the reserve camera which is present in the higher variants.
Power and chassis
Under the hood, all models of the Hyundai Stargazer are powered by a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 112 hp and 144 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT) which functions much in the same way as a CVT. The MPV rides on MacPherson struts at the front with coupled torsion beam axle at the rear. Stopping power comes with 15-inch disc brakes at the front and 9-inch drum brakes at the rear.
Safety
As for its safety features, Hyundai Philippines has equipped the new MPV well to make it competitive with the market. For its standard equipment, the Hyundai Stargazer gets dual front airbags and ABS. The GLS model gets electronic stability control and hill start assist, while the top-of-the-line GLS Premium model gets all the bells and whistles. It comes with high beam assist, blind spot collision avoidance assists, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance assist, lane keep assist, driver attention warning, safe exit warning, forward collision-avoidance assist, a tire pressure monitoring system, manual speed limit assist, parking distance warning, rearview monitor, rear seat alert with monitor, lane following assist, and child seat anchors.
Pricing and colors
The Hyundai Stargazer is available in Creamy White Pearl, Dragon Red Pearl, Magnetic Silver Metallic, and Midnight Black Pearl. It also comes with a 5-year/200,000 km warranty, whichever comes first.
Pricing for the MPV is as follows:
- 1.5 GL IVT – PHP 998,000
- 1.5 GLS IVT – PHP 1,128,000
- 1.5 GLS Premium IVT – PHP 1,218,000
