This year’s Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit is in its 10th edition, and Hyundai Philippines has the remarkable IONIQ 5 to show off at its booth. Not only will the model sit pretty, but it’ll also be doing double duty, helping the brand serve refreshments by powering the cafe at this year’s showcase.

The 10th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS) is being held at the SMX Convention Center, and Hyundai Philippines recently became a part of the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP). The association aims to educate Filipinos, accelerate society’s adoption, and partner with the government in support and encouragement of the country’s use of electric vehicles (EVs).

Hyundai Motor Company will also present its EV strategy at this year’s booth. The brand is committed to becoming a frontrunner in the field of EVs and it has set goals to achieve clean mobility. The first milestone in its timeline will be by 2025 when there will be a total of 23 eco-friendly vehicles in the brand’s lineup. Hyundai plans to sell 1,000,000 units and achieve a 10 percent share in the market, with 30 percent coming from the Asia-Pacific region, which includes its home country of South Korea, and the Philippines.

There are two buzzwords to look out for in Hyundai’s strategy, namely the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-MGP), which is the brand’s first dedicated EV platform that enables 800-volt ultra-fast charging, and an increased driving range of up to 481 kilometers. A low center of gravity is also achieved by positioning the cells on the floor of the car, which ensure the ideal weight distribution between the front and rear axles for improved handling.

IONIQ stands for the brand’s new range of fully-electric vehicles that are sustainable and futuristic. The first model in the country for the brand is IONIQ 5, and to be followed by the IONIQ 6 by 2023. By 2024, Hyundai will then reveal the IONIQ 7, a large SUV.

Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 will showcase the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature at this year’s PEVS booth. The feature allows users to power external devices and appliances such as a coffee machine, microwave, electric bike, and other equipment. The IONIQ 5 can also serve as a backup power source in case you’re unplugged from the grid be it camping or for relief operations. If you need to help out another electric vehicle regain its charge, you can call upon the Vehicle-to-Vehicle feature which allows the car to share its power with another electric vehicle.
