It will be the brand’s answer to the sedan segment and may function similarly to how the MG ZST acts for the MG ZS. It’s the facelifted version but is treated as an entirely different product.
To recall, the MG GT has launched two years ago in China as the all-new version of the MG 5. It takes on the brand’s third-generation family design which gives it a sportier look overall. What gives it an edge over its competitors is its 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that develops similar power figures to that of the Honda Civic RS. However, due to the different segment positioning of the MG 5 in the Philippines, the MG GT may not end up competing with the Civic.
With that said, the MG GT may, however, come with the naturally aspirated 1.5-liter engine that is already found in the MG 5 to keep things simple. This means that despite its sportier looks it will still make around 112hp and 150 Nm of torque which will be mated to a CVT.

While official specifications for the sedan have yet to be released, what we can tell you based on the information available in other markets is that the MG GT will have slightly different dimensions. It now measures 4,675 mm long, 1,842 mm wide, and 1,480 mm tall, which makes it slightly longer and wider than a Toyota Corolla Altis. It will ride on MacPherson Struts and a rear torsion beam axle. As for its stopping power, this comes from disc brakes found at all four corners of the vehicle.
While MG Philippines has yet to release any other information about the upcoming sedan, reports have stated that it could be priced at P995,888 which could peg it as a very competitively priced car, especially as the Toyota Vios, one of its rivals locally is also within the same price bracket.
