The Philippine International Motor Show is just around the corner and with it comes reports about upcoming models that will make their way into the local automotive market. One such model that could make its way into the local debut soon is the hybrid version of the Suzuki Ertiga. While this has yet to be officially confirmed by Suzuki Philippines, Norihide Takei, the General Manager of Suzuki Automobile Philippines announced at a press con for the motor show that the Japanese automaker would be launching a hybrid vehicle.
Mr. Takei confirmed that a new hybrid model will be one of the brand’s highlights at the motor show but did not drop any specific model names. However, we did state that it “builds on Suzuki’s reputation for producing fuel-efficient vehicles.” Furthermore, he said that this model is “their answer to the high fuel prices.”
If we take a quick look at the brand’s global lineup of hybrid vehicles, one model stands out from the rest and it is the Ertiga Hybrid. As a quick refresher this model launched globally in April of this year and made its ASEAN launch back in June, so, there is a high possibility that this could be the model launching at PIMS in a few weeks.
The Ertiga Hybrid carries with it the 1K5B engine with an integrated starter generator (ISG) and a 6-Ah 12-volt lithium-ion battery. This helps bump up the outputs of the 7-seater MPV from 100 horsepower to 104.7 hp at 6,000 rpm, while torque is up to 138 Nm at 4,400 from 130 Nm. An idle start/stop is also standard. This gives it a slight bump in power over its internal combustion engine counterpart while increasing the already stellar fuel economy figures of the MPV.
