The Land Transportation Office has issued a memo announcing that the applications for driving schools will now be open. This, in turn, will allow more driving schools to pop up in the country, allowing more Filipinos to apply and learn how to drive.
As stated in previous memos, the LTO now requires drivers to procure driving course completion certificates from accredited driving schools in order to secure a license. New student permit applicants must take a mandatory 15-hour theoretical driving course while non-professional drivers are required an additional practical driving course before they receive their license from the LTO.
Now that more schools will be opening, more slots for students to learn will be available. With more slots for students, Filipinos will have more schools and times to choose from should they wish to take up a driving course on the road to a license in the Philippines.
According to the announcement, individuals who wish to put up their own accredited driving schools are welcome to apply at the LTO. The memo states that interested applicants will have until May 23, 2022, to submit their requirements following the memorandum Circular No. 2022-2324 dated April 2022, otherwise known as “Guidelines for the Accreditation of Accredited Driving Schools IT Service Providers.”

With the LTO opening up the floodgates for more accredited driving schools, expect more slots to open up and more opportunities for aspiring drivers to enroll in a slot of their choice. Other than that, it’s worth speculating that the tuition prices at most if not all schools can go down as a result, due to an increase in supply.
