The arrival of the 2023 Honda Civic Type R is imminent. We’ve seen months worth of teasers, culminating in a camouflaged preview and a personal-record-breaking lap at the Suzuka Circuit in Japan. Now it appears Honda is ready to unveil the sports sedan next month.
In an interview with Australian outlet Carsales, Honda Australia director Stephen Collins let loose that the Civic Type R is indeed making its debut this June. By all indications, the newmodel will likely come with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four VTEC engine. It’s expected to produce upwards of 300 hp with power being sent to the front wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. Nothing’s been confirmed as of now, however, so we’ll have to wait for the full specifications.
Fans have been waiting for the new Civic Type R for quite some time, as the first spy shots emerged way back in 2020. Last year, Honda gave us our first official look at the model, albeit in camouflaged form. With only a few weeks left until its unveiling, the wait is almost over. The question is: will it be launched in our country? That’s up to Honda Cars Philippines, but there is precedent, as the brand did make the previous model available. If it does arrive here, expect the pricing to start at north of P3 million.

Can’t wait for the new model? The current-spec Honda Civic Type R is still available in the Philippines. The high-performance hatchback packs a 2.0-liter direct-injected and turbocharged i-VTEC engine that delivers 306 hp and 400 Nm of torque. It’s the fastest and most powerful Civic you can buy today.
Shifting duties are handled by a six-speed manual transmission for optimal control. Of course, with great horsepower must also come great stopping power. To that end, the Civic Type R features 350mm Brembo disc brakes at the front, with 305 mm solid discs handling the rear. The Honda Civic Type R is priced at P3,210,000.
