H1210001 Waitress minaliit ang batang gustong kumain part2

Nissan appears to be taking its time to slowly electrify its range of sports cars. While the Z was recently updated, it is still powered by an internal combustion engine. The Nissan GT-R, on the other hand, is getting long in the tooth with no news of a new generation coming soon. However, the automaker is already thinking way ahead by at least one generation as the COO of the company Ashwani Gupta has confirmed that there will be a radical change to the platform at some point. He confirms that the supercar will eventually become either fully electric or will come with a hybrid system.

I think it’s too early to say when, but definitely, it will come one day.” However, Nissan points out that EV tech is not ready yet for such a high-performance application. The same holds true for the Z: “At present, when we do all the simulations to the electrification on these cars, we don’t find the right technology to define what is ‘Z’ and what is ‘GT-R’. And at the end, these two are not cars, these are our culture.

Ashwani Gupta
Nissan COO

Gupta continues by stating that the Z and GT-R are the “Beauty and the Beast” of Nissan mentioning that the two performance cars play different roles in the automaker’s vehicle lineup. One thing to note is that Gupta confirmed that the GT-R will not be replaced as the flagship performance model of the Japanese automaker.

All things considered and with the rising gas prices, an electrified sports car generation could be a good thing, especially with the near-instantaneous torque that electric motors bring to the table. It also opens up these sports car platforms to newer technologies that could improve their handling and make them even faster and better handling compared to their predecessors. For now, we will have to wait and see what Nissan has in store for its upcoming next-generation GT-R.
