General Motors (GM) has confirmed that an all-electric version of the Chevrolet Corvette is in the pipeline. In a televised interview on CNBC, GM President Mark Reuss confirmed the arrival of the Corvette EV, which would come after a hybrid version slated to launch next year.
The electric Corvette, which could be called the E-Ray, runs on GM’s Ultium battery platform. It’s an architecture that also underpins several Chevy EVs, including the Blazer EV, Silverado EV, and Equinox EV.
Chevrolet has released a teaser video for the new vehicles, although the one seen is most likely the hybrid version, as the V8 sound is unmistakable. There’s a camouflaged model with almost exactly the same design as the pure gasoline-powered Corvettes, and the only holdout seems to be the yellow-finished brake calipers. It’s still unclear if GM plans to radically change the Corvette’s design when it transitions to an electric powertrain.
As for power, we only have information about the hybrid Corvette. It’s rumored to pack a twin-turbo engine and a high-efficiency electric motor, delivering around 1000 hp and all-wheel-drive (AWD). The all-electric version doesn’t have to match these figures exactly, but it needs to live up to the Corvette name if it wants to attract consumers.
All-electric Chevrolet Corvette confirmed, hybrid version launching in 2023
The hybrid version could deliver upwards of 1000 hp in an AWD configuration.

Power figures well above 500 hp would be almost mandatory at this point, although we hear that all-wheel-drive is basically a lock for the EV at this point. If Chevrolet offers the right combination of power, range, features, and price, it could make for an irresistible performance EV that’s tough to beat.
The Chevrolet Corvette Hybrid will be launched in the US in 2023. The Corvette EV will follow suit, although there is no set date yet. A local release is unlikely for now, but Corvette fans do have the Stingray, which sells in the Philippines for P8,546,888.
