The Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) is set to open on April 27, 2022. That’s according to Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), which funded the project in its entirety through its subsidiary, the Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corporation (CCLEC).
The opening of CCLEX is surely a welcome development, as its location in the Central Visayas region helps bring modern convenience to more motorists outside Metro Manila. The project is the first tollway project outside of Luzon. It connects Cebu City to Mactan Island, offering motorists the convenience of traveling between the two points at speeds of up to 80 km/h. CCLEX will be cash-only at the start, but it will eventually shift to an electronic toll-collection system by June of this year. The project has an estimated construction cost of P30 billion.
We are happy and honored to have come to this point, opening the biggest infrastructure project in this part of the country. Not far from here 501 years ago, Cebuanos celebrated a victory in a pitched battle against a superior force. Today, we mark a different milestone, a modern victory not of arms but of engineering and construction that gave us such a beautiful structure that has now become an icon of Cebu.

In related news, the Binondo-Intramuros bridge is now open for public use. It connects the oldest Chinatown in the world with the remnants of Old Manila. The two-way, four-lane, 680-meter bridge services up to 30,000 motorists per day. It also has space for pedestrians and cyclists.
The three openings to the Binondo-Intramuros bridge include two via Solana Street and Riverside Drive, and the other through the San Fernando Bridge. Twelve new “iconic” bridges are also planned for Metro Manila, with three of them rising over the Marikina River by 2026.
