Lotus has unveiled a new electric vehicle (EV) called the Eletre. The British automaker, acquired by Geely in 2017, looks set to crash the EV party with the first of three new all-electric vehicles launching within the next four years.
The Lotus Eletre itself takes inspiration from the Evija—an electric hypercar first unveiled in 2019. This design influence is why the Eletre looks unlike most EVs available today. The crossover appears like an SUV masquerading as a hypercar, and the result largely speaks for itself.
Lotus is highlighting the performance capabilities of the Eletre, as it will reportedly be capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in less than three seconds. That would make it competitive with models like the Tesla Model S Plaid, often considered by many as today’s gold standard for performance EVs.

Lotus has unveiled a new electric vehicle (EV) called the Eletre. The British automaker, acquired by Geely in 2017, looks set to crash the EV party with the first of three new all-electric vehicles launching within the next four years.

Lotus is highlighting the performance capabilities of the Eletre, as it will reportedly be capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in less than three seconds. That would make it competitive with models like the Tesla Model S Plaid, often considered by many as today’s gold standard for performance EVs.
Lotus aims to achieve that feat with a 100 kWh battery pack and 600 horsepower on the Eletre. The company also says a 350 kW quick charger can deliver 400 km of range in only 20 minutes, an impressive figure considering the estimated 600 km total range.
While Lotus designed the Eletre with hypercars in mind, it still features decidedly SUV-like proportions. An aggressive front end and a sweeping roofline are a refreshing change of pace from the typical electric crossovers available right now.
The Eletre represents many firsts for Lotus. It’s the brand’s first five-door production vehicle, its first non-sports car model, and the first vehicle to be built in China, among other milestones.
The Lotus Eletre will come with a smorgasbord of connected and advanced driver-assist features, including adaptive cruise control and “end-to-end autonomous driving.” The Eletre will likely come with a self-parking feature, allowing users to call the vehicle from a parking lot through their smartphone and 5G connectivity.
There’s no word on a release date yet, but when it does arrive, expect the Lotus Eletre to launch in China first. A North American and European release could also happen down the line. As for the Philippines? Well, we can still dream about this all-electric hypercar/crossover.
