A roaring new engine
The new Ranger Raptor’s flagship power plant comes as a 3.0-liter V6 Twin Turbo EcoBoost gasoline engine. Ford Performance engineered this beast to the tune of 391 hp and a whopping 583 Nm of torque. For comparison, the current-spec Raptor available in the Philippines puts out 210 hp and 500 Nm of torque. That’s with the 2.0-liter Bi-Turbo diesel mill also available on the base model Ranger.
While the switch to a V6 motor sounds promising, several sources have indicated that this will be limited to the North American and Australian markets. Nothing is set in stone, but it looks like the Raptor could sport updated versions of the 2.0-liter turbo and BiTurbo engines when it arrives in our market.

A roaring new engine

Built Tougher
Ford Australia, the lead unit working on the Ranger and Ranger Raptor, says it listened to what the customers wanted. Aside from packing a meaner engine under the hood, the Raptor has gotten tougher with a reinforced chassis with unique suspension mounts. There are also new electronic brake boosters for more responsive braking. On top of that, the Raptor gets a massive bash plate that’s nearly twice as large as the one on the all-new Ranger.
Ford also showed off the Raptor’s suspension, now with FOX 2.5-inch live valve shock absorbers tuned by Ford Performance. The dampers can adapt in real-time and can shift positions up to 500 times per second. Plus, the new Raptor gets both front-locking and rear-locking differentials to overcome even the most challenging terrain.
Refined interior
If all of that isn’t enough, Ford also brought its attention to detail inside the new Ranger Raptor. The midsize truck gets Ford Performance seating with an abundance of Raptor emblems, trims, and premium-looking stitching.
Of course, the Raptor also inherits the new Ranger’s 12-inch portrait-style touchscreen display. It also gets a gigantic 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster that’s configurable to suit the driver’s needs. To top things off, the Raptor has seven different drive modes, including Baja mode. These modes can alter everything from traction control to steering response. The available exhaust modes also let you control how quiet or loud you want the Raptor to roar.
Release date
The 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor will reportedly arrive in US showrooms next year. It could come to the Philippines before or after that date. For now, we still have the next-gen Ranger and all-new Everest to look forward to this year. The 2023 Ranger will be in local dealerships first, followed promptly by the 2023 Everest.
