The LTO published on its Facebook page that vehicles with plate numbers ending in “2” may get extended validity. Typically, plates ending in “2” are due for renewal in February. This move was done in order to still conform to the social distancing standards brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Quarantine is ongoing in the country despite the lowered alert level, however, visitors that want to head on over to the LTO to conduct business still need to make sure that they wear the proper personal protective equipment which includes a medial, N95, or cloth face mask, plus a vaccination card as an extra precaution.
For vehicles whose registrations are expiring this month, or on February 2022, you’ll get a month’s worth of extended validity, but be sure to get your vehicles registered on or before March 31, 2022 otherwise you will be penalized with a nominal penalty fee.

The LTO has been extending the validity of registrations for quite some time now. Due to the pandemic, the government agency has been closing a few offices in light of the new Omicron variant of COVID-19 and the wave of cases that followed thereafter. In line with this, and in consideration of the many motorists looking to avail of the LTO’s many services, the agency extended the validity period of licenses in January by two months.
Community quarantine is still in effect, so again, we’d like to remind all motorists that will head out of their homes to make sure to keep sanitary, wear their face masks properly, bring their vaccination cards, and make sure to follow strict social distancing measures in order to stay safe and curb the spread of COVID-19 and its highly contagious nature, specifically with the fast-spreading Omicron variant. Hopefully, the cases taper down further which would free up the rest of the country to operate normally once more. Sooner or later the LTO will stop issuing validity extensions once the virus is under control.
