The ASEAN NCAP has recently tested the Toyota Avanza Veloz. The crash testing happened last February, for the top-of-the-line variation of the Avanza that has still yet to be released in the Philippines.
While the new 2022 Avanza is already as new as can be, the Veloz is incoming, and for Filipinos to get an affordable MPV with a five-star crash safety rating from the ASEAN NCAP is a huge value add any day of the week. The variant tested indicated that it was from Indonesia, but the report states that the model is also destined for other countries in Sout East Asia, the Philippines included. The report also indicated that there are driver assists systems and autonomous features that will be found on the new Veloz. It’s likely that the Toyota Safety Sense suite of features has trickled its way down into the MPV category, at least based on the report’s rundown of features.
The report is summarized as follows: Adult occupancy protection was scored at a very respectable 34.88 out of 40, Child occupancy proctection at 17.17 out of 20, safety assist at 16.03 out of 20, and Motorcyclist safety was rated at 11.92 out of 20. Even with a few shortcomings, the Avanza Veloz still managed to score top marks with a five-star rating and an overall score of 79.99 out of 100.
The 2022 Toyota Avanza Veloz gets a 5-star rating from the ASEAN NCAP
We don’t have the Veloz variant yet, but its safety rating should also be shared with more standard variants of the Avanza.

Even with a few shortcomings, the Avanza Veloz still managed to score top marks with a five-star rating and an overall score of 79.99 out of 100.
As for its overall rating from the ASEAN NCAP, it reads as follows:
“The new Toyota Veloz is Toyota’s first model to be assessed under the new ASEAN NCAP 2021-2025 assessment protocol. The new MPV offers standard 6 airbags in all available countries except for Indonesia that offers variants with 2 airbags. The 7-seater model is equipped with Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Stability Control, Seat Belt Reminder system for both frontal and rear occupant seats and Pedestrian Protection technology as standard fitment across all its variants. Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) City and AEB Inter-Urban systems are available as standard for Brunei market. The Veloz is also equipped with Blind Spot Detection (BSD) as standard fitment for the market in Brunei, Thailand and Vietnam. It also offers other safety assist technologies namely Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keep Assist as optional. The new Toyota Veloz performed well in the test with a total score of 79.99 points from the AOP, COP, SA and MS categories. The score has placed the MPV to be eligible to receive 5-Star ASEAN NCAP rating.”
