Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has officially launched the 2022 Toyota Avanza. The all-new model features a significant exterior redesign, a host of new features, and the promise of improved fuel efficiency and a better driving experience. Could the new MPV capture Filipinos’ attention anew?
Exterior
The new Toyota Avanza looks more aggressive in almost every way. While it’s still decidedly an MPV, the Avanza has caught on to its siblings’ design language, and it could be for the better.
To start with, the next-gen Avanza greets you with a massive trapezoidal grille with more prominent slats. Chrome is absent here, as the new model gets a straight line connecting the elegant split-type headlamps that come in LED for the G variant.
Elsewhere, the Avanza gains a strong side character line unseen in the previous version. It gives the MPV a more rugged feel when combined with the lower-sitting side mirrors and higher-up fender flares. The 16-inch alloy wheels on the top-spec model also make a good impression.
Meanwhile, the rear impresses by ditching the quad-lighting setup in favor of a cleaner-looking, single-cluster design. The slimmer rear reflectors also make the Avanza look a bit wider than it is. Overall, the Avanza’s all-new design feels like an improvement over the previous generation, and many Toyota fans will be pleased with this update.

Interior and Technology
Toyota also gave the new Avanza an interior makeover. It now gets two-tone seating material with flexible seating adjustments, including the new “Sofa Mode.” The Avanza still seats seven, so large families will have no trouble fitting into this MPV.
Tech enthusiasts will be happy with the new 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system on the E and G models. All variants except the base model also get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Plus, there’s push-to-start ignition and a 4.2-inch TFT Multi-information display on the G model.
As for safety, the 2022 Avanza gains features like a back camera and sensor for the E and G variants, with the top-spec G model also getting Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Camera Traffic Alert. The G variant tops things off with Vehicle Stability Control and six SRS airbags.
Power
As for powertrain options, Toyota Philippines offers two selections for the new Avanza. The first is a 1.3-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine capable of 97 hp and 122 Nm of torque. This frugal mill is available on every variant but the top-spec G model. That comes with a slightly beefier 1.5-liter engine, delivering 105 hp and 137 Nm of torque.
The new Avanza is front-wheel-drive (FWD) only with a manual gearbox for the lower models or a continuously variable transmission (CVT) for higher variants.
Pricing
As we previously reported, the 2022 Toyota Avanza starts at only P813,000 for the 1.3 J MT model. The top-spec 1.5 G CVT variant will set you back P1,039,000.
