While no deals have been inked yet, both parties have reportedly signed a memorandum of understanding (MOE) that forms their intent to enter a joint venture (JV). The new JV will involve the creation of a new, yet-unnamed company that could launch its first all-electric car as soon as 2025.

Sony will now lean on Honda’s manufacturing might as the world’s current 9th-largest automaker by market capitalization. The new company will handle design, development, and sales, while Sony will be at work on a brand new mobility service platform.
Honda’s extensive experience in vehicle production and marketing combined with Sony’s mastery of electronics and entertainment, the new company could be a formidable force in the future of mobility.
Sony has already given us a glimpse of what it envisions for the future. In CES 2020 and 2022, respectively, the company unveiled its Vision-S and Vision S-02 concepts. It is currently unclear how the new JV with Honda will affect these designs, but it at least shows that Sony won’t be starting from scratch in terms of EV design and development.
