Toyota Philippines announced recently on its Facebook page that there are “global supply challenges affecting some of [its] models, including the Land Cruiser 300 series which was just launched in the Philippines late last year.
The 2022 year model Land Cruiser is a remarkable upgrade over the outgoing 200 series. The full-size SUV continues to be a hot ticket item at any Toyota dealer as many individuals are clamoring to get their hands on a unit or even just a slot on the waiting list. Although, who can blame the fans if the Land Cruiser? With a total redesign and a new engine powering the 300 series, it’s an exciting change for this generation that warrants a lot of demand.
However, with all its features, it’s likely one of the harder vehicles to build in Toyota’s stable. Not as simple as other vehicles, Toyota has announced a string of delays a few months back to temper their consumers’ expectations, and the brand also apologized for the shortage of units coming out of its plants. Production delays can be attributed to the COVID-19 Pandemic, Semi-conductor shortage, and unforeseen system failures.
In a recent statement by Toyota Motor, a system failure at Kojima Industries Corporation has led to the operational suspension of 28 production lines at 14 plants in Japan. The suspension takes effect today, March 1, 2022, for both the first and second shifts. Toyota Global “[apologizes] to [its] relevant suppliers and customers for any inconvenience this may cause,” and will continue to work with its suppliers in order to meet the demand for its vehicles.

While no specific unit was started, Kojima Industries supplies Toyota with interior body panels such as cup holders, door pockets, switch bases, cowls, and overhead consoles. On top of that exterior and mechanical covers and components also come from Kojima such as battery packs, insulators, ring gears, registers, and antenna modules.

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) issued a statement close to the time when Toyota Global announced the production stoppage. TMP thanked its customers for their continued patronage and patience in light of the shortages for the Land Cruiser 300 Series. The brand also reiterated that there is “One Suggested Retail Price” for the model nationwide, and that price starts at P5,173,000 and tops out at P5,657,000 for the top-of-the-line ZX variant. The company also stated that there will be no other premiums on top of the suggested retail price of the Land Cruiser 300 series in order to secure reservations and purchase a unit.
