Mazda Philippines has brought over the 2022 Mazda MX-5 to the country. The Japanese carmaker gave this year’s release new colors and trims, plus a handling upgrade intended to provide an even more enjoyable driving experience.
Exterior

As was the case in the previous models, the 2022 MX-5 is available in Soft-Top and Retractable Fastback (RF) variants. Mazda says the Build Your MX-5 portal on its website can generate 76 possible combinations for the new roadster.
The Platinum Quartz Metallic color option is new for 2022. It replaces the Arctic White colorway from last year’s model. Apart from that, the Soft-Top MX-5 is available with either a black or Dark Cherry roof fabric. Meanwhile, the automatic transmission RF models are available with either a body-colored or black roof. The manual RF variants are only available with a blacktop.
In addition, the MX-5 Club Edition is now available in a Soft-Top configuration. The Club Edition models include signature Recaro sport bucket seats, 17-inch dark-finish BBS forged wheels and Bilstein sports dampers.
Interior and technology

The new Mazda MX-5 adds a new Terracotta Nappa leather upholstery option. The rich brown hue adds another dimension to the MX-5’s premium look. Mazda says the Black Leather trim option is still available for 2022.
Perhaps the biggest highlight for this release is the new Kinematic Posture Control (KPC) feature. The new technology adds a more integrated and stable turning posture to the MX-5 without adding weight to the roadster. KPC applies a subtle braking force on the inner rear wheels under high G-force cornering, reducing body roll and making for a more stable driving experience.
As for the rest of the interior, the MX-5 packs a Mazda Connect infotainment system with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. There’s also an available nine-speaker BOSE audio system for a richer soundscape.
Other notable features include ABS with EBD, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), keyless entry, rear parking sensors, and a reverse camera. The MX-5 also gets Mazda’s I-ACTIVSENSE package, enabling features like Smart City Brake Support and lane departure warning.
Power
All variants of the 2022 Mazda MX-5 feature a 2.0-liter SkyActiv-G engine that delivers about 181 hp and 205 Nm of torque. Drivetrain options include a manual gearbox and a six-speed Skyactiv-Drive automatic transmission.
Pricing
The 2022 Mazda MX-5 starts at P2,020,000 for the Soft-Top 2.0L SkyActiv variant. As previously mentioned, there are 76 different combinations to choose from, which will affect the pricing depending on the final configuration.
The most expensive MX-5 is the RF Club Edition Model, which retails for P2,720,000 for the new manual version and P2,790,000 for the automatic variant.
Mazda Philippines is also bringing over the MX-5 MCP 25th anniversary edition. It will have a limited-time production run, with the first deliveries arriving in September 2022. For more pricing information, visit our Car Guide for the 2022 Mazda MX-5.
