H1710005 Dalaga na sa Klase, hindi tanggap ng magulang

Last week, Toyota Motor Philippines officially launched the Raize in the local market. From what we’ve seen, there’s plenty of interest in this fun and youthful subcompact crossover. That said, fleeting interest and willingness to buy are two different things. During the official media launch for the Raize, Toyota shared its goal of selling 1,000 Raize units per month, but is it doable?

Let’s break it down. For Toyota to achieve this goal this year, it would have to sell about 11,000 Raize units by year’s end. That’s a big number for any new nameplate entering our market, but this is Toyota we’re talking about here. Filipinos love the brand’s perceived reliability and enduring appeal. Plus, small crossovers are still in high demand in the country and many parts of the world. Also, it does help that the Raize is a relatively affordable option in its class.

Toyota has the tools to translate interest to sales, but a lot would have to go right if it were to sell 1,000 units each month. To further put things in perspective, let’s take a look at another crossover that has proven popular since its launch: the Ford Territory.

2022 Toyota Raize Philippines

2022 Toyota Raize Interior

As of December 2021, Ford had sold over 8,000 units of the Territory in our market. The compact crossover launched in August 2020, so doing the math puts it at 500 units sold per month after 16 months. What does that mean for Toyota and the Raize? It practically means that the Raize will have to double the sales of the Territory from the past year and a half, then again, the Territory is not a Toyota and the brand’s goals seem like a total possibility given the price and value that the Raize brings to the table.

That sounds like a tall order, but we don’t think Toyota throws around these numbers for nothing. After all, the brand has been in the country for a long time. If it thinks highly of its newest model, we’d have to give them the benefit of the doubt. In any case, expect to see the Raize left and right on streets near you. The 2022 Toyota Raize is available now and starts at P746,000.
