Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) has announced the recall of all 2016 to 2019 models of the Honda Pilot. This recall was done for a possible replacement of the panel comp hood and covers 137 units of the SUV that were sold locally.

According to Honda, findings show that there is an improper hood to grill gap setting at the time of manufacturing for these models. As a result, the hood latch may experience a higher than expected load under certain driving conditions. The strong air pressure experienced at certain speeds may force its way through the gap which may cause the hood to vibrate. This overtime may cause the area surrounding the hood latch striker to crack and potentially dislodge, presenting a risk for the hood to open while driving at speed increases the likelihood of an accident.

There have yet to be any reported cases of any hoods suddenly opening from Honda Pilot owners, but Honda Philippines is covering all of its bases. The Japanese automaker with its 37 authorized dealerships and service centers nationwide will proceed with the reinforcement or replacement of the panel comp hood and it will be done free of charge for the vehicle owners.

Honda states that the replacement of the panel will take about 30 minutes to complete if the action is needed to reinforce the hood. If diagnosis warrants a replacement, the automaker says that this will take about 2 days to complete with the necessary painting included.
