The 2022 Volkswagen Lamando L has officially made its debut in China. Unlike the sedan version that is being offered in the Philippines, this new model comes as a liftback and sports a new design language different from what the German brand typically offers. Aside from its new look, the Lamando L is now bigger in terms of sizing, it is now 4,784 mm long, 1,831 mm wide, and 1,469 mm tall. It also gets a new wheelbase that measures 2,731 mm as it rides on a new MQB Evo platform.
Exterior
On the outside, the 2022 Volkswagen Lamando L features the brand’s new design language. This is evident in the sloping hood design that gives the vehicle a sportier appearance along with its new front fascia. The Lamando L now comes with large LED headlights that are paired together with what appears to be a larger single-frame intake at the front of the vehicle. This gives the sedan a “smiling” look which is a big departure from its more sedate design from the previous model.
At the rear, the Lamando L adopts a more fastback-like design as it comes with a sloping roofline and with full-width LED taillights with its unique design. Aside from this, the sedan will be riding on a new set of 18-inch wheels at least for the top-of-the-line variants.

Interior
On the inside, the Volkswagen Lamando L features a more minimalist design. It gets a layered floating dashboard that is paired with two massive displays. The first display is a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, while the second is a 12-inch infotainment system.
Aside from this, the fastback also features a new Beats sound system, a heads-up display, a sunroof, and adaptive cruise control just to name a few new key features.
Power
Under the hood, the new Lamando L still retains the same powerplant as the older model. It is still powered by a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine that produces 148 hp and 250 Nm of torque. The sedan is still front-wheel drive and still has a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Volkswagen Philippines has yet to make any announcements with regards to this new model but it coming to the local market is still highly likely as the current generation of the Lamando is at the right age for a new model change. For now, we will just have to wait and see what the German automaker has in store for the coming months.
