Earlier this month, Maserati announced that the brand has plans to head back to track in order to fulfill its motorsport strategy, and it will make its debut in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in the 2023 season.

Maserati themselves have had a number of iconic race cars such as the legendary MC12, which competed in the FIA GT Championship, so the brand is no stranger to the race track. In fact, Maserati has had a total of nine Gran Prix wins for the factory team during its Formula One campaign which ran from the 1940s to the 1960s. After those decades, the brand continued to make engines for Formula One cars. On top of that, the brand has also thrown its hat in the Touring and Rally rings in the 1980s.

More recently, it appears that the brand has been paying more and more attention to the electric space, fielding hybrid versions of the Levante and the Ghibli. Furthermore, all-electric models such as the brand new MC20 Supercar have been making waves ever since it was launched, proving that high-performance can be electrifyingly gorgeous and fast. This “lightning surge” and innovative attitude towards electrification aligns with the thrusts of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, which is the world’s first all-electric road-racing motorsport series.

Season 9 of the Formula E series will be the perfect platform for Maserati to flaunt their racing experience and showcase their innovation in the field of electric mobility. Maserati will reportedly field the fastest, lightest, and most powerful Formula E car ever, and it will be called the Gen3. The model will be the world’s most efficient race car as well, featuring industry-leading design, production, and technological innovations.
