Chevrolet has unveiled an all-electric Silverado pickup truck at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The electric vehicle (EV) has long been in the pipeline and follows the footsteps of trucks like the Ford F150 Lightning, the Rivian R1T, and the Tesla Cybertruck.
According to Chevrolet, the Silverado EV boasts a 400-mile (about 644-km) range. The power is there, too, coming in at 664 hp with more than 4,500 kg of towing capacity.
All that is made possible through General Motors’ Ultium battery-electric platform. Chevy says Ultium provides lower battery costs and reduced design complexity in a flexible package. More than that, the Silverado EV gets Ultifi, an intelligent software platform that enables over-the-air (OTA) updates and downloadable apps, among other features.
In developing the Silverado EV, Chevrolet looked to the GMC Hummer EV. That means a similar, independent front and rear suspension, front and rear electric motors, electric four-wheel-drive (e4WD), and an available high-capacity battery pack for maximum range.

The Silverado EV also features an Automatic Adaptive Air Suspension system, allowing the driver to raise or lower the vehicle by two inches (50 mm). The Multi-Flex Midgate is also notable, as it expands the truck’s cargo hold without compromising rear seating capacity. Fully open, the truck bed stretches to provide over nine feet of storage.
Inside, Chevrolet equipped the Silverado EV with features like a 17-inch LCD freeform infotainment screen, an 11-inch driver instrument display, and a head-up display (HUD) with a 14-inch field of view. The truck is decidedly modern, offering users the level of information needed to run and maintain such a futuristic cabin.
It doesn’t stop there, as Chevy furnished this EV with a hands-free start function that automatically turns on the vehicle through an enabled device. Owners can also use their smartphones to lock and unlock the truck remotely.
As for availability, we likely won’t see the Silverado EV until late 2023. That’s when Chevrolet plans to launch the RST First Edition model, which is a long-range option that will sell for $105,000 USD (about P5.35 million), plus destination charges in the United States.
Other models will become available down the line, starting with the WT base model that could retail for around $40,000 USD (about P2.55 million). There’s no word on local availability, and it looks unlikely for now, so we’ll have to stay tuned for the latest developments.
