While Peugeot is known for its lineup of hatchbacks, crossovers, and MPVs, it looks like the French automaker wants to expand its roots into the pickup truck segment. The Landtrek was initially meant for the Latin American and African markets but it seems that the automotive company has other plans for it.
The Landtrek has already been spotted undergoing testing in Malaysia and is also set to debut next year in the country. Reports have also indicated that the pickup truck will be built in the country as well and will join the likes of the refreshed 3008 and 5008 in Peugeot Malaysia’s local lineup of vehicles.

As a bit of a backgrounder, the Peugeot Landtrek wasn’t solely developed by the French automaker, it was made through a joint venture between it and its Chinese partner Changan. The Landtrek also goes by several names in its home country China as it is also called the Changan Hunter and the Kaicene F70. While the Landtrek was made with Changan, Peugeot says that the pickup truck has been engineered to international standards and has undergone 2 million kilometers of testing.
If it does enter the ASEAN market, the Landtrek will be packing some serious engine options as it can be had with either a 1.9-liter turbo diesel or a 2.4-liter turbocharged gasoline-fed engine. The turbo diesel motor pushes out a healthy 150hp and 350 Nm of torque, while its gasoline counterpart makes 210hp and 320 Nm of torque. The pickup truck will also be available as either a 4×2 or a 4
