Last November, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) became among the first local automakers to receive a Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Safety Seal. Along with Volvo and its Makati headquarters, Mitsubishi is currently the only two car manufacturers operating in the Philippines to obtain the distinction.
DOLE awards the Safety Seal to businesses and establishments that meet at least one of two criteria. The first is the observation of minimum public health and safety standards, while the other is registration and integration to StaySafe.ph, the country’s contract tracing solution. MMPC happens to tick off both boxes, so it appears to be more than qualified for the Safety Seal.
The Safety Seal covers Mitsubishi’s Sta. Rosa Plant, where it assembles vehicles like the L300 and Mirage G4. It also covers the company’s parts warehouse in the Greenfield Automotive Park-Special Economic Zone (GAP-SEZ). DOLE allots a six-month validity period for the Safety Seal, after which firms must file for renewal and repeat the inspection process. That is to hold up the integrity of the seal and ensure it’s always up to date.
