Toyota has chosen “T-Mate” as the new name for its safety and driver assistance systems. Previously known as Safety Sense, the term encompasses many of the company’s most cutting-edge automotive technologies. Safety Sense is currently available on many of Toyota’s local models, including the Fortuner and Corolla Cross.
Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) seem to be all the rage in the car industry today, and automakers are improving on their versions with each new model release. With Toyota, the launch of T-Mate is not only a rebranding but a commitment to a safer future for its customers.
The Toyota T-Mate includes a wide range of noteworthy safety features. The first batch is a holdover from the Safety Sense package. The Pre-Collision System (PCS) helps drivers avoid collisions with pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles. There’s also Road Sign Assist, which monitors road signs and aids the driver with identifying speed limits and other restrictions.
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) allows the car to set a pre-defined following distance from the vehicle in front. Meanwhile, Lane Trace Assist (LTA) keeps the driver centered in their lane, providing gentle steering inputs whenever the vehicle drifts from the lane markings. For safer visibility, the Automatic High Beam (AHB) function adjusts headlights automatically for optimal use.

Toyota vehicles with T-Mate equipped will almost certainly find their way to the Philippines. While the first local model to have this feature is currently unclear, we think it’s only a matter of time before we see it in the country.
