Metro Manila residents can stay out to their hearts’ content starting November 4, 2021, as the nation’s capital does away with curfew hours. The development comes in light of the recent drop of COVID-19 cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) and its neighboring areas.
The mayors of Metro Manila have unanimously agreed to end the curfew in their respective cities. All 17 local leaders signed the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Resolution No. 21-25 to formally lift the curfew.
The implementation of curfew hours was intended to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the region. Upon the curfew’s lifting, it will be Metro Manila’s first time without a curfew since the pandemic began. Due to this, we’re expecting heavier traffic flow around the metro, especially at night. There could also be an increased number of vehicles traversing expressways and tollways, such as the Skyway Stage 3.
The lifting of curfew hours in Metro Manila will help spread out [the] influx of people coming to and from malls to further reduce the risk of virus’ transmission.

In addition, the mayors have agreed to adjust mall operating hours from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. in anticipation of increased patronage amid the holiday season. The adjusted operating hours will take effect by November 15.
Despite the lifting of curfew hours in Metro Manila, local government units (LGUs) can still determine whether or not to allow minors to stay out late at night. Citizens are advised to coordinate with local officials before engaging in late-night activities.
With the end of enforced curfew, the government hopes to stimulate the economy and slowly transition the country to a post-pandemic landscape. It will be a while before we go back to life without the virus, but this looks like a necessary and crucial step in the right direction.
