Undas 2022, or All Saints’ Day, is right around the corner, and the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) appears to be well-prepared for it.
It is the second straight year wherein Filipinos are commemorating their loved ones amid the pandemic. While quarantine restrictions have eased since last year’s Undas, strict safety protocols are still in place for most of the country.
On Wednesday, the MMDA inspected the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX). Its chairman, Benhur Abalos, led the inspection and said that traffic enforcers are in position to monitor intersections around bus terminals. Security could also be tighter around the Skyway and other expressways, so motorists will have to keep that in mind.
As Undas approaches, we are beginning to see an increase in the number of passengers. What is important here is we are ready. We are coordinating with local government units and all other concerned for the safety of the public.

Public transport terminals get notoriously crowded as All Saints’ Day approaches. Commuters rush to get home to their families in the provinces, so the MMDA is getting ahead of the issue. It has deployed the MMDA Road Emergency Group to conduct random breathalyzer tests on suspected drunk bus drivers. Those who fail the test will not be allowed to drive and instead be ordered to rest.
Apart from bus terminals, the MMDA is also positioning its enforcers at crucial traffic chokepoints around Metro Manila. The agency is appealing to citizens to do their part and follow the safety guidelines set by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF). The agency recommends minimum health and safety standards, including wearing face masks, face shields, and practicing social distancing.
In light of this, the number coding scheme and truck ban remains suspended in the Philippines. It should be noted that cemeteries are closed from Oct. 29 to Nov. 2, so those who wish to commemorate their loved ones are advised to do it from the safety of their homes.
