The fifth-generation Land Rover Range Rover has made its global debut. In an exclusive unveiling at the London Opera House, the luxury 4×4 SUV turned heads as it showed off its exterior and interior updates.
A radical redesign rooted in history
On the outside, the 2022 Range Rover sports a more minimalist look. At first glance, one would think this vehicle never got out of the concept stage. It’s that radical. From the flat but sophisticated front fascia to the reworked rear end, the design just flows.
While this isn’t your granddad’s Range Rover, it still retains the styling cues that have made it renowned for over 50 years. The silhouette remains decidedly the same
A premium cabin to match
The all-new Range Rover’s interior features a clean design that perfectly matches its exterior. The dashboard has a horizontal look that mostly goes unbroken. There’s a massive 13.7-inch digital instrument cluster that displays more driving information than you could ever need. An 11.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system lies in the middle of the dash, while a rear entertainment system with a pair of 11.4-inch displays is available.
As expected, the rest of the cabin features Land Rover’s latest premium materials. No one will be disappointed by the spacious cockpit and sprawling rear seats. On top of that, a Meridian Signature Sound system comes as an additional option. It features a whopping 35 speakers that output 1,600 watts, plus an active noise cancellation system for more relaxed rides.
A new platform and powertrain options
The 2022 Range Rover is the first to ride on Land Rover’s new flexible Modular Longitudinal Architecture, or MLA-Flex for short. The architecture can accommodate a variety of powertrains, from internal combustion engines to mild-hybrids and plug-in electric hybrids. Land Rover also says the first all-electric Range Over will debut in 2024.
For now, the new Range Rover is available with a wide choice of powertrains. The base model gets a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six mild-hybrid engine that delivers 395 hp and 550 Nm of torque. The most powerful option is a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 that makes 523 hp and 749 Nm of torque.
Availability
The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover will be available in the US starting next spring. Prices could start at around $105,000 (P5.3 million) and go up to about $164,000 (P8.3 million). There’s no word on when the new model could arrive in the Philippines, if at all, but if it does reach the country, we expect it to sell for considerably more than its US price tag.
