Residents in the Quezon City area around Elliptical Circle are all-too-familiar with North Avenue’s rather narrow entry brought on by the presence of blue barriers and construction behind the said barriers.

The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) recently posted a traffic advisory stating that the Eastbound portion heading towards Elliptical Road on North Avenue will be closed to motorists starting October 15, 2021. However, the closure will not simply last for a week or a month, instead, expect the road to be closed well into the next year.
Motorists are expected to take alternate routes to get to their destination. Motorists are also informed that the closure of this section on the avenue will last from October 15, 2021, all the way to June 1, 2022. The MMDA has also posted that drivers who frequent this route will have to take Quezon Avenue via Agham road in order to reach Elliptical Circle in Quezon City.

Subsequently, vehicles who will be entering Wildlife and Veterans Memorial Medical Center may still pass through North Avenue.
The purpose of the partial North Avenue closure is to make room for the ongoing construction of the MRT7 project, spearheaded by the Department of Transportation (DOTr). Motorists who frequent the area may have noticed the pillars that have been erected in order to support the soon-to-be-completed rail system.
Prior to this closure, North Avenue has already experienced several closures and as it stands, the road has been substantially narrowed in order to make space for the construction of MRT7. Also in the past, the avenue experienced other closures due to the same reasons.
As for the impact on traffic, the MMDA doesn’t expect this closure to impact traffic all too much, since motorists in the area may already be used to the avenue’s closures in the past. Motorists, please be advised and plan your route out accordingly starting on October 15, 2021, all the way to June 1, 2021.
