The all-new Honda HR-V has arrived in the Philippines. Bringing a completely new design, two new powertrain options, and a suite of advanced safety features, can Honda’s next-gen subcompact crossover take the spotlight away from some of the powerhouses in its segment?

The new design feels like an evolution of the old model rather than an outright overhaul, but we mean that in the best way. While the old HR-V flaunted its sleek curves and rounded body panels at every corner, the new model blends sharp edges and curves to achieve a more mature and sophisticated look. The Honda HR-V has grown up and looks primed to take on some of the most handsome subcompact crossovers available today.
In terms of dimensions, the new HR-V sits a little longer, wider, and lower than the previous model, although the wheelbase has stayed the same. This change gives the HR-V a more planted stance, reaffirming its coupe-like looks to go with a sloping roofline and the return of the C-pillar rear door handles.

The all-new Honda HR-V has arrived in the Philippines. Bringing a completely new design, two new powertrain options, and a suite of advanced safety features, can Honda’s next-gen subcompact crossover take the spotlight away from some of the powerhouses in its segment?
Exterior

The 2022 HR-V also features a redesigned front fascia with slim headlights, with the base model getting a black slatted grille and the turbo variant getting a black mesh grille and a heartbeat motif symbolizing the new HR-V’s “Amp Up Your Life” slogan. Over at the sides, the HR-V combines sharp lines with black trims on the side mirrors and fender flares. The base variant comes with 17-inch alloys, while the turbo model gets two-tone 17-inch rims. The rear impresses with unified taillights for a modern touch, with the top-spec model also getting a twin exhaust setup. Full LED lighting comes standard for both variants.
Interior and Technology

Inside, the all-new Honda HR-V features a predominantly black cabin with touches of chrome. Honda says the cabin layout abides by the brand’s “man maximum-machine minimum” principle, which means an ergonomic design and a mix of quality materials.
An eight-inch, floating touchscreen infotainment display with six speakers, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto features prominently, and below that is an automatic air conditioning system with air diffusion. It gets a monochrome digital screen to display fan and temperature controls, controlled by a series of physical buttons and dials.

There are two USB-A ports up front, one for charging and one for the infotainment system. The driver also gets a fully digital display flanked by analog gauges. The rear passengers also get air conditioning vents and a USB port for charging. Plus, the Turbo CVT model features premium leather seating material and auto-dimming rearview mirrors.
One of the highlights of the all-new HRV is Honda Sensing, a suite of active safety features that takes the subcompact crossover to a new level of protection and driving convenience. On the 2022 HR-V, Honda Sensing includes the following features:
- Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow (LSF)
- Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
- Road Departure Mitigation System with Lane Departure Warning (RDM with LDW)
- Auto High-Beam (AHB)
- Lead Car Departure Notification System (LCDN)
To top things off, the all-new HR-V gets Hill Descent Control for going down hills and steep inclines. All these new tech and safety features should make the 2022 HR-V more competitive in the increasingly feature-packed crossover market.
Power

There are two powertrain options available for the 2022 HR-V. The first engine, available on the 1.5 S CVT model, comes from the Honda City. It’s a 1.5-liter 1.5L DOHC i-VTEC naturally aspirated gasoline engine, delivering 121 hp and 145 Nm of torque.
Meanwhile, the higher model packs a Civic-spec 1.5-liter VTEC Turbo power plant with 177 hp and 240 Nm of torque. Both engines connect to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that sends power to the front wheels.
Pricing
The 2022 Honda HR-V is available in two variants: S CVT and Turbo CVT. The HR-V S CVT sells for P1,250,000, while the HR-V Turbo CVT is P1,598,000.
Four colors are available, with Ignite Red Metallic and Meteoroid Gray Metallic coming at no additional cost. The Platinum White Pearl option carries an additional P20,000, as does the Premium Opal White Silver option, which is exclusive to the turbo model.
