Volvo Cars Philippines is aiming to take the lead in the electrified and hybrid vehicle market with the launch of its new green models at the 2022 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS). On the first day of the event, Volvo unveiled hybrid versions of the XC60 crossover, XC90 midsize SUV, and S90 executive sedan.
All three vehicles carry Boost Hybrid engines with four cylinders and two liters worth of displacement. It’s turbocharged and paired with a 48-volt hybrid system with an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG). Combined, the pairing produces a total of 313 hp and 460 Nm of torque.
That’s not all that’s new, as the models also feature exterior redesigns, like the XC60 which gets a new grille and front bumper design with sportier trims. Meanwhile, the XC90 takes things further with top-end trims for the Inscription variant. The S90 is now available in a long-wheelbase Inscription model with more space and premium features.

Volvo also focused on safety for its hybrid range, with each vehicle benefitting from the boron-steel-reinforced SPA platform. A range of advanced safety features are also present, with collision avoidance and automatic braking coming in as standard. Volvo’s City Safety feature is also a first-in-market safety system that protects the vehicle, driver, and pedestrians in urban settings.
As for pricing, Volvo pegs the XC60 B6 R-Design Boost Hybrid at P4,290,000, the XC90 B6 Inscription Boost Hybrid at P5,590,000, and the B6 Inscription Boost Hybrid at P4,415,000. Not affordable prices by any means, but the hybrid powertrain and high-end features one would expect from Volvo are all present in these vehicles.
In terms of premium electrified vehicles in the Philippines, there are few models more attractive at the price point of the XC60, XC90 and S90. Only time will tell if this could lead to more hybrid and all-electric vehicles for Volvo and its competitors.
