The Geely Coolray has become a bestseller in the Philippines, consistently ranking as Geely Philippines’ number one model since its launch in 2019. That said, over two years later, the subcompact crossover still hasn’t received a significant update in our market.
Meanwhile, over in China, the Coolray (known there as the Binyue) has gotten multiple facelifts in a short span. Last year, it got a new grille and bumper, among other updates. Now, Geely has given the Coolray a more substantial refresh. Could this version finally arrive in the Philippines?
The latest Coolray gets a redesigned front fascia that’s more in line with Geely’s “Vision Starburst,” a new take on its “Expanding Cosmos” design philosophy. There’s a massive mesh-type grille, slimmer LED headlights, and a new vented hood. Geely also sprinkled red accents throughout the vehicle to complete its look.

At the rear, the Coolray gets sharper LED taillights with a light bar that spans the crossover’s width. There’s also a new rear spoiler and a menacing faux quad exhaust tip setup.
The changes aren’t all cosmetic, as Geely also bestowed the Coolray with a brand new engine. This year, it’s a 1.5-liter four-cylinder mill that delivers about 181 hp. For comparison, the local-spec Coolray packs a 1.5-liter three-cylinder power plant that makes 178 hp. The torque figure and transmission are still yet unknown, although the gearbox will likely remain as the seven-speed wet-type dual-clutch transmission (DCT) we’ve come to know.
As Geely’s most popular model in the Philippines, we think the Coolray deserves a notable refresh. Nearly three years on, buyers may think twice about purchasing a vehicle that’s looked mostly the same since its launch. This facelift could hit the spot, though, and it may even entice new buyers to pull the trigger for the Coolray. The current-spec Geely Coolray is still available starting at P998,000.
