H1710005 Gångster Na Tatay Inangasan Ang Magiging Manugang part2

It won’t be long before Mazda launches its new MX-5 in the Philippines. While it’s not a totally new model, the Kodo-Design brand’s iconic roadster is getting a 2022 refresh which includes a few minor updates and a few added features.

The stage is set for a launch on February 16, 2022. The new year model changes will apply to both MX-5 models, namely the soft top and the hard-topped RF. Mechanically, the MX-5 will still be the same. The new model will retain the naturally-aspirated SkyActiv-G 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and produce the same amount of power and torque as the outgoing model years—at 181 hp and 205 Nm of torque.

New for 2022 in other markets, and possible changes we can see in the Philippines, are body-colored side mirrors, which are changed from the glossy black pair that the 2021 model year has. The infotainment system will also get an upgrade with Wireless Apple CarPlay, but Android Auto still remains wired.

Apart from that, the most intriguing feature that could possibly be added into the 2022 model year is Mazda’s Kinetic Posture Control (KPC), which is a system that takes advantage of the MX-5 structure to control it while cornering. The system is exclusive for a rear-wheel-drive layout in Mazda vehicles, which is to say that the MX-5 is the only model in the lineup that will get this feature for now.

Mazda MX-5 Platinum Quartz

In practice, KPC will allow the MX-5’s suspension to behave like a more complex and expensive setup with adaptive shock absorbers. The system applies a light braking force to the inner wheel just as the steering wheel is turned into the corner. The system mitigates body roll and allows the roadster to corner flatter.

If you recall, Mazda already has another system that is meant to improve its cars’ handling, and that is G-Vectoring Control or GVC in short. The difference between GVC and KPC is that GVC uses a light application of the brakes on the outer wheel of a turn for extra stability, and is used on front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive platforms like the Mazda3 and CX-9 among other models.

Mazda MX-5 Soft Top Navy Blue

Other changes to the lineup may include the introduction of Platinum Quartz Metallic and a Navy Blue color option for the soft-top model. The interior will also get a new color option in the form of Terracota Nappa Leather.
